Foreword by Beryl Wilson and Peter Braune

The fundraising drive demonstrated what this community is all about. Even off the Island, people want to be a part of this community. For example, Tremblay Motors — he’s located at the foot of Granville Island and he fixes many people’s cars down here. This project is the community saying: “This is who we are, this is what we are and we want this community to continue to thrive far into the future.” That’s why these projects are here.

Says Peter, “The timing of the these three projects, even the local paper False Creek This Week being revived after all these years -— all of these things are demonstrations that the spirit of the Granville Island community is now being seen and heard. This is our voice and all of these things are vehicles to show who we are as a community. So that’s the serendipity and the synchronicity, that all these things happened at the same time.”

The future of this visionary urban renewal template lies before us. The secret is revealed in the Granville Island Works newspaper, Granville Island book and Artists and Artisans of Granville Island dvd, where the lines between business and community, friendship and neighbourliness are often blurred. Come join the fun, embrace this vibrant community and come away touched and enriched by a small part of it. This Island is truly a jewel in the heart of Vancouver.

As Kevin Head from Kroma Acrylics says of the Granville Island Works project, “It is perfect timing... it’s helping Granville Island keep its identity, optimism, and its people focus...This has been exceedingly valuable”.

“I have been very proud to be a part of this project. We have all found working with the people of Granville Island to be very inspiring,” says Jocelyn Hallett of ZenHouse Media.

It is perfect timing... it’s helping Granville Island keep its identity, optimism, and its people focus...This has been exceedingly valuable.
