Emily Carr University of Art + Design was founded in 1925 and is one of BC’s oldest post-secondary institutions and one of the world’s leading art and design schools. In 1980, Emily Carr moved to Granville Island as part of the urban renewal plan for the Island. The school is an integral part of the Island’s artisan, cultural and entertainment communities. As well, Emily Carr’s international reputation for excellence attracts students from around the globe and their experience is enhanced by Island life.
Emily Carr offers Graduate and Undergraduate degrees, as well as Continuing Studies courses. In 2006 Emily Carr opened Intersections Digital Studios (IDS), a dedicated research space, which provides students with access to state of the art digital technologies. The University is committed to Aboriginal programming and offers academic, technical and cultural support to students of Aboriginal ancestry.
