La Baguette & L'Echalote
Business partners Louise Turgeon & Mario Armitano established La Baguette & L’Echalote on Granville Island in 1982. Mario was trained as a Chef in the South of France. Louise is from Montreal and worked as a landscape architect during the redevelopment of Granville Island in 1979. Louise witnessed the changes during the Island’s development and fell in love!
They soon started a French Butcher Shop and Charcuterie in the Public Market. They saw a need for a real French bakery in Vancouver, and that was the beginning of a dream! People line up daily to get their butter croissants and crusty baguettes, warm and fresh from the oven. Our bakers and pastry chefs work around the clock.
Baked fresh daily, a few of our specialties include the real “French Baguette”, “Pains au Levain”, all butter croissants, “Petits Pains au Chocolat”, our signature cake “Le Ganache”, organic lavender cookies, hand made chocolate truffles, macaroons and many other appetizing items.
