Arts Club
Theatre Company
The Granville Island Stage is one of the venues for the acclaimed Arts Club Theatre Company, a not-for-profit professional theatre institution. Annually, a quarter of a million people experience the Arts Club at the scenic 450-seat theatre, as well as their Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, and on tour.
Founded in 1958 as a private club for artists, they officially became the Arts Club Theatre in 1964, and built the Granville Island Stage in 1979. Executive Director Howard Jang says, “Granville Island has a special soul; it is an honour to be an integral part of the diversity, vibrancy, and heartbeat of the Island.”
Artistic Managing Director (since 1972) Bill Millerd agrees, “The Granville Island Stage was one of the first cultural facilities to open on the Island. I am thrilled, that for 30 years, we have been a vital part of this vibrant place. The mixture of theatre and diverse activities creates a dynamic urban setting that we hope to be part of for another 30 years.”
